Physician and explorer. After studying medicine at Edinburgh University he entered the Royal Navy as surgeon on H.M.S. "Blossum". In 1828, he was appointed to H.M.S. "Sulphur", which was to convey Captain Stirling to Swan River. He explored the country around Perth, then later sailed down the south-west coast. In May 1831, he was sent to King George Sound as Government Resident and medical officer. In 1832, he returned to Perth as colonial surgeon. He died at King George Sound on 5 November 1835...
